Megaray produces the world's most advanced high-intensity illuminators used in military, border and law enforcement applications globally. Our patented Galilean-telescope optical system is capable of uniform illumination of targets at over 3 miles (5 km) in visible light and covert infrared for use with night vision devices. Our products have been independently certified as having best-in-class performance.
Founded in 1982, Megaray has pioneered the high-intensity illumination market. Megaray was spun-out of NVO Systems, a company which manufactured night vision devices. Recognizing how infrared enhanced night vision capabilities we began a multi-year project to develop a long-range military grade system with active IR illumination. Our first product was a 500W illuminator used on armored vehicles in conjunction with 76 mm high velocity turrets. Nothing of its kind existed before and the overwhelming demand positioned us to expand into other products and invest heavily in R&D.
Since then our continual R&D process, led by a team of electrical, mechanical and optical engineers, has resulted in multiple patents in optical design and thermal dynamics. We continually introduce new products ensuring the highest performance levels with the latest technology.
Our products are designed to exceed the requirements of the most challenging conditions with many being MIL-STD-810G compliant for extreme environmental conditions (including shock, extreme temperatures, humidity, salt spray, and sand/dust) as well as MIL-STD-461F for electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Our products are currently being used by the most demanding customers including the US Military, NATO and the Japanese Navy among many others. Over the years Megaray and its subsidiaries have partnered with several of the largest defense contractors in the US as well as supplying other industries such as Oil & Gas, Mining and High-Speed Imaging.

PIONEERING THE MILITARY LONG-RANGE ILLUMINATION MARKET
After years of research, Megaray launched the SL7000 in 1986, specifically designed to withstand the shocks of a 76 mm high-velocity cannon barrel upon which it was mounted. The radiant intensity presented challenges which needed the creation of new technologies which didn't exist, particularly around thermal management and optics in order to produce this state-of-the-art system.
EXPANDING INTO THE HAND-HELD MARKET
In 1989, we produced the world's first military high performance hand-held searchlight which became the forerunner to the current MR175. The beam produced enough ambient light from 1 mile (1.6 km) away to read a newspaper.
ENSURING BEST-IN-CLASS PERFORMANCE FROM CONTINUED CUTTING-EDGE R&D
From the start we've registered multiple optical and thermal-management patents. Our complex Galilean-telescope optics is what ensures the highest power, uniform beam without hotspots or black holes and was the foundation of future developments and patents.
DEVELOPED THE FIRST MIL-SPEC MULTI-SPECTRAL CSW ILLUMINATOR
In 2003 we developed the first high-intensity crew-served weapons (CSW) illuminator that could operate in visible and IR while meeting demanding mil-spec requirements to endure the constant shock and vibration of automatic high caliber machine-gun fire. This became the forerunner to the current MR2000 Series.
